Where does the name Le Scorbut come from? Le Scorbut is the French word for scurvy. In the 1530s, the French seafaring explorer Jacques Cartier noticed that the First Nations people did not die from the debilitating disease. Upon inquiry, Cartier learned the First Nation peoples used a decoction of pine needles and white cedar to cure scurvy.
It was so effective that Jacques Cartier took the recipe back to Europe with him. To honor the First Nations, The Warrior Blends have updated the recipe to use lime instead of white cedar as the white cedar is a bit too bitter to use with food. We are certain you will enjoy it!
Ingredients: Jalapeño peppers, lime juice, poblano peppers, vinegar, sugars (maple syrup, cane sugar), lemon juice, onions, spinach, cilantro, Quebec alder pepper, garlic and lemon zest.
